Experience the magic of autumn in the foothills of the Appalachians. Take this 3 hour round trip adventure and let the stunning hues of the season take your breath away, as you make your way through the Daniel Boone National Forest and the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, enjoying a kaleidoscope of color with wide open vistas, gorgeous scenes of Roaring Paunch Creek and exciting rock clearances before stepping back in time at Barthell Coap Camp.
Barthell is the site of the Stearns Company’s first load of coal, produced in 1903, and paved the way to Stearns earning the monikier “Empire of the South.” Painstakingly restored by the Koger Family , Barthell hospitably opens the doors to 1910 and Edwardian life in the foothills of the Cumberland Plateau, the southernmost portion of the Appalachians.
